Week 2.5: Quiero todos los perros...

It’s July 11th! Which means free Slurpees at 7-11! I’m not sure if they do that here in Mexico though… And Slurpees are called Frozts. Weird, right?

So this last few days have been fun!

Monday night for FHE two people, a brother and a sister, came to perform some traditional Yucatecan dances for us! It was so cool!

Look! SHE HAD A WHOLE TRAY ON HER HEAD. WHILE SHE’S DANCING. So crazy!
But then of course they had some people from our group come up and attempt to do the dance without any instruction. It was hilarious!!
Except unfortunately then it was time to switch partners. The brother asked me to dance... So I was making a fool out of myself in front of a pro… Oh well, it happens!

Tuesday we went to Institute for the first time here! When I saw the church building... Woah! It's beautiful!
Institute was good! Well, what I understood of it. I don’t know very many words relating to the church in Spanish… For example, la misericordia is mercy. I got the gist of it though! I just missed a lot of everyone’s comments… Hopefully I’ll be able to better understand next time!

After Institute ended, Gabi and I wanted to take a quick peek at the temple, since it is literally RIGHT NEXT to the Institute building. Oh my goodness it is so pretty! It’s small, but it’s really gorgeous!
Seeeee? Goodness. I can’t wait to go inside!!

Wednesday was quite the adventure.

Our last class of the day got cancelled again (which unfortunately means 4 hours again on Tuesday…), so Kelsey and I decided to go check out the mall that we pass every day on our way to school. It’s was super fancy, like Gran Plaza. Except one thing made it so much better…
THERE WAS A PET SHOP!
But that’s not it…
THEY HAD PUPPIES IN THE PET SHOP!

And the black lab was sooooo cute~
Look at him!:
I was so happy!
After we went home, we helped mamá make lunch: flautitas (taquitos) and a vegetable soup. It was super yummy! But in the middle of lunch, our two roommates came home and asked if we wanted to go with them on an adventure with some people from our group and a guy who is a member of the church, Daniel. So… off we went!

When I got into Daniel’s car… His car doesn’t have usable seatbelts. Which would be okay (I guess...), except that he is a MANIAC driver! While we were blasting music, he would swerve and hit the brakes to the beat.
Honestly, he was basically driving like this:
It was fun, but also a little scary!

We ended up going to a cenote in a town called Homun. We had to enter in from a hole in the ground, and it was essentially a cave. It was all fine and dandy until one of the boys told us that the pebbles on the ground that we were stepping on was bat poo. Yummy. I just tried not to think about it…

Here are Gabi, Kate, and I!:
 The water was so cold!
It was super fun though! I didn’t get many pictures though since I didn’t want to bring my camera in case it got wet…

While driving back, I saw so many homeless dogs. It made me so sad to think that all those dogs didn’t have a home! I just about turned into the Cat Lady in that E-Harmony video (except with dogs), wishing I could make all the doggies in the world happy, and be on a rainbow… And… and…
To make matters worse, Gabi said she saw a dead dog on the side of the road. I’m so glad I didn’t see it, otherwise I definitely would have burst into tears!

Then when we went out for dinner, there was this cute kitty that was sitting nearby our table. Gabi pointed out that it probably had worms because its stomach was so swollen, but it was so skinny other than that! It was so, so sad. So we gave it some of our food in hopes of giving it a better life. But then it stared at us with its adorable eyes… I wanted to take it home so badly! :’(

That’s the one thing that can without fail, make me cry... Anything sad relating to animals.  Sad animal videos, animal abuse, and seeing animals without a home that aren’t in the wild… It’s the worst!

… Gyah! Enough of this sadness! Onto something happy!

There are so many pretty rainbows here! I've seen at least 5 since being here the past few weeks! I love it!
For example:
And this one was actually a DOUBLE rainbow! :)
Jeez I wish there was always a constant rainbow in the sky... They're so pretty!

Anyway, this weekend is going to be so much fun! We're planning on going to the beach tomorrow and going to Celestun on Saturday. I can't wait to tell you all about it! :)

Hasta luego, amigos! :)

767 Days Left! :)
