I figure I should probably make my first post about the general story behind this blog... Well, I'll give a brief overview of the situation I'm in. So here it goes!
Hah. I kind of hate telling this story in a way, because it makes me sound like such a stereotypical BYU student! I know it sounds like things were really insane, rushed, and whatnot. I never would have imagined I would've been involved in this situation, but here I am!
Adam (now Elder Gibby) and I are students at BYU in Provo, Utah. We met each other through a mutual friend at the beginning of December 2012. The next week (finals week), he asked me out on two dates. The first was, y'know... average, nothing too special. We saw Brave in the movie theater, ate candy, and got to know each other a little bit. The second date, December 13th, we ended up deciding to go hike the Y. The Y is a giant, well, Y, that is on the side of a mountain.
It's quite the hike!
So, in the middle of December, late at night, when it was icy and snowy, we hiked up the Y and I ended up having my first kiss. Definitely the best date I've been on! Not just because of the kiss, silly. Sometime I'll have to tell you that story though... Hm... Expect it within the next few months! :)
Anyway, since that day, we communicated every day up until he left for his mission. We texted all day, talked on the phone, Skyped! We didn't want a relationship though since he was going to be leaving February 20th for an LDS mission, which lasts 2 years. But with each day, we fell more and more for each other. On his birthday, January 3rd, we said "I love you". We made sure we knew we both DID, in fact, love each other, especially because of the situation. Even then, we still decided against being boyfriend and girlfriend because, first off, I didn't want to be a distraction to him, and second, upholding a relationship on a mission is really difficult. The only mode of communication is through letters, and seeing how he was going to be in another country, the mail would take a decent amount of time.
Of course, January 30th came around. What happened this day, you ask? Well, lo and behold, we ended up deciding to become boyfriend and girlfriend just under a month before he left! However, my situation is a little different from the typical "missionary girlfriend" situation. I'm planning on leaving on an LDS mission for 18 months, hopefully starting in January. He'll be getting back from his mission in February 2015, and I'll be getting back around July 2015. So I'll ultimately be waiting for just under a year, and he'll be waiting for 5 or 6 months :) We'll both be returning to BYU in August of 2015. :) Starting from the day we last saw each other in person (our second date), it'll be 976 days until we see each other next, which will be at BYU! Hence the name of this post :)
Today marks Elder Gibby's and my 2 months as boyfriend and girlfriend! Elder Gibby has been out for almost a month and a half. In a couple days he'll be leaving the Provo MTC to spread the gospel to and to serve the people in Oaxaca, Mexico!
That's where my missionary is serving his mission!
870 days left! :)
